What makes it unusual is that I wrote the entire seven books of this series completely out of order. I wrote the sixth one first, then the fourth, then the second, the first, the third and the fifth.

They more or less constitute the entire career of Chicago Private Detective/Sioux native/magician Johnny Sundown from his first mission after quitting the Chicago P.D. ("Atoms and Monsters") through his death and unlikely return ("The Journal of Johnny Sundown") and then decided to finally write a story about when he first came to Chicago to try and join the army after Pearl Harbor and got recruited into the police force instead.

In an odd way it was like when a series of movies about some hero character concludes and they decide to do a "reboot", taking the story back to the beginning (like with the Hulk or Batman). So I wrote the reboot.

You could, if you wanted, read them in the order I outline on my website (jonhthompson.com) with this one as the last in the series, but I figured it would also make a good introduction to the character as well.
